Turn your head and cough

In this week’s Flipped, I check in on some series I’ve reviewed and recommended previously. It’s terrible to say, but with the constant waves of interesting new titles launching all the time, I kind of wish some ongoing ones would start sucking.

With everyone else growing bored with Sgt. Frog recently, I’m guessing I’ll probably start to pick up on what you all were noticing around volume 18. (I’m a little behind when it comes to spotting popular trends.)

But really? The Yakitate!! Japan parody didn’t even raise a smile from you??

Okay, that did kind of eke a smile out. It just felt like, overall, the element of parody kind of dropped out of a lot of the stories. It all felt kind of rehashed instead of having anything new or funny to say about the material it was tweaking.

I enjoyed most of the chapters, but I’ll admit I did think the Natsumi as adult and losing her clothes element of the skiing episode definitely felt rehashed. They even brought back the same characters from the earlier episode! Still, I laughed at a lot of the side jokes. (“Who knew a seal would behave that way when cornered?”)

Okay, your anniversary post reminds me that I did snicker heartily at that montage of chores.

I should put together an abridged version of all the best bits for you.

And the chore montage reminded me of one of my favorite panels from the very first volume of the manga. Perhaps that’s what’s wrong with Keroro: he needs to return to his roots of doing more household cleaning!
