Seeing the sites

It looks like Go! Comi and Tokyopop aren’t the only publishers sprucing up their web presences. I gave the Ice Kunion link a click and found this.

I wonder what’s going on over there?

I saw that. Someone came to the DQ forums recently asking DQ to license an ICE Kunion title because she was under the assumption that they were kaput. :/ I saw the delivery list of ICE Kunion titles last week on ComicList, and lo and behold, Barnes and Noble in Austin have the latest volumes of the titles listed as shipping.

I know they merged with Udon, but I thought that’s where there license catalogue was going.

I had seen a couple of new volumes listed in a recent Previews, so I figured they weren’t kaput yet, but I hadn’t heard about the Udon merger. Thanks!

Actually, they haven’t merged with Udon–Udon and ICE Kunion parted ways in December, which was part of the reason for the publication delay. (Udon will be launching its own manwha imprint this fall with three soong-juhn titles.) I haven’t seen any of ICE Kunion’s outstanding volumes surface here in NY yet, though I’m still holding out hope that the final volume of Bring It On! will materialize.

Umm, hold all your horses! Udon and ICE are splits-ville. As was noted by Udon’s head man in a response he posted on my blog. I also got to speak to Eric Kim in NY a few weeks back and he confirmed that the two were together at one point (Udon was doing production and lettering) but Udon has decided to go their own way with a new Korean partner – Haskan Publishing (while ICE was run by Sigongsa and Seoul Cultural if I remember correctly).

ICE… They are on their own apparently and they have slowed down their solicitations as none were in the latest Diamond Previews for July 07.

Woops that is Erik Ko not Kim… Sorry Erik!

does this mean that there won’t be any more new releases of volumes for the series that are currently published under ice kunion?

  11. davidpwelsh says:

It doesn’t seem like it, Ovi. There were some new volumes solicited in a recent comic-shop order form, and Tina said she’d seen new books recently as well.
